Online Security

Maxicare provides superior and quality healthcare maintenance services to its members and customers. Delivering such services requires a security framework and security best practices to protect and secure your personal information.

Maxicare recently obtained ISO27001 certification to ensure that our security framework is on par with the world's best when it comes to protecting personal data.

Here is some information to help protect yourself and your data.

Website verification:

Maxicare clients and members should pay close attention to the URL or website address of the site they are visiting to ensure that it is a legitimate Maxicare website.

  1. The Maxicare website uses HTTPS:// at the beginning of its website address that creates an encrypted connection between the website and a browser.
  2. A secure lock icon appears on the left of the URL that displays information about the site’s connection security, the validity of its SSL certificate, the identity of the issuer, and the owner’s information. The URL on the certificate matches the URL of the webpage that you are visiting.
  3. With the previous two in mind, inspect the URL for any unusual symbols, dashes, and suspicious attempts in mimicking Maxicare brands and products.

Member and client protection:

At the member/client’s level, security deals with the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and cryptography as the first level of defense. This requires the use of SSL-compliant 128-bit encrypted browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Google Chrome. SSL is a protocol that establishes a secure channel for communication between our members and Maxicare’s application by utilizing effective cryptography techniques.

Maxicare utilizes digitally signed SSL certificates such as Let’s Encrypt and DigiCert.

Secure your password:

Your username and password are integral to the protection of your personal information. Never write it down or share this with anyone. Initial passwords are advised to be changed after the first login or access. Remember that protecting your username and password is your responsibility.

Select a secure password to protect your personal information:

  1. Select a password that is easy to remember but difficult for others to guess. Do not use birthdays, names of pets, your children’s names, or simply plain text. These passwords can be easily guessed by others.
  2. Choose a password that is composed of a minimum of eight (8) characters, using a combination of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters, ~!@#$%^&.*
  3. Change your password regularly and do not reuse passwords.

Computer and mobile protection:

  1. Keep your computer up to date with the latest software and patches to prevent hackers, viruses, and malware from exploiting any known weaknesses.
  2. Install and keep your virus/malware protection up to date to protect against known malicious software and viruses. This prevents hackers from installing malicious software on your computer.
  3. Always scan your files and computer for any virus using antivirus software.
  4. Never leave your computer unattended while logged on to Maxicare websites.
  5. Log out when you are finished using the website to properly end your sessions. Once a session has ended, no further transactions can be processed until you log in again to the site.
  6. Protect your mobile phone by updating and installing the latest software version.
  7. Enable password protection settings in your mobile devices to prevent unauthorized access in case of theft or loss of the mobile devices.
  8. Download programs or applications from a secured source such as, but not limited, to Apple Store and Google Playstore.

Email SPAM protection:

  • Protect your email by enabling a spam filter to help avoid receiving spam messages.
  • Never respond to spam messages
